Hey and for first, yes there are hundreds of threads asking about coil whine on PSU, on GPU on wherever. I've looked those up and most common solution would be to change PSU.
So then lets move on to my case. I assembled all the components into my case, plugged all cables in like told in the manuals.
And the specs are(please note that I upgraded my GPU and SSD only, these are ~5 year old components):
Old:
CPU: Intel i5-3570K
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-V LX
PSU: Corsair TX650M
Upgraded:
GPU: GTX 1060 3gb Dual-OC
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO
Then I fired up my PC. It starts up fine but when it loads to desktop, this coil whine starts. I isolated the noise and I am quite positive its coming from the PSU.(Went through every component and it comes out loudest from the back of the PSU from where the air flow comes out).
So I ignored it for now since it should be completely harmless and started installing programs and this is where it stops. When computer was on even slightest load, installing chrome, etc. coil whine stops and when its finished and back to idle > coil whine starts.
My theory here would be that if the:
PC is idle > PSU fan spins on lower rpms > coil whine emits.
PC is under load > PSU fan rpms rise > coil whine stops because of faster fan rpm
But then there is another thing related to the gtx 1060:
In the assembly manual there was "this" and "not this" figures about the PCIe power cord.
I wasn't sure about difference between these two, so I plugged cable with same pins as fig1 into my power supply and GPU. It starts up fine and seems to work, but could this cable difference cause that coil whine? Of course I should put the one told in manual but I didnt find anything related to it and "wrong" one fits in just as fine and doesnt seem to break anything at least.
Now I'm thinking should I get new power supply or does changing the cable fix it? Thing is that this started right after I installed new SSD and GPU and I'm quite positive that GPU is not faulty and why would SSD make any noise.
Any help appreciated.
